Structural Fumigation

back

While there are many alternatives to pests within a free-standing (detached) structure, fumigation is the only scientifically proven method that that eradicate bedbugs, termites or other targeted pest with a single treatment. It eliminates insects in all stages of life (including the eggs) and leaves no residual. This method is ideal for treating virtually everything inside your house or structure (such as clothing, bed frames, appliances, furniture, luggage, books, etc.) suspected of harboring pests because the insects dwell in spaces that may not be accessible otherwise. Unlike ambient heat or chemical, every square inch of the structure is treated with the gas and no pesticide residual inside the premises after the treatment.

There are two sealing methods of performing fumigation. One is to seal the structure with plastic, tape or other sealing materials, and the other is by enclosing the structure in a “tent” of vinyl-coated nylon tarpaulins. The design and layout of the structure will dictate the optimal sealing method.

If the structure is constructed of lumber shingle, the tent sealing method will most likely be necessary whereas a bricked structure may utilize the tape & seal method. Structural fumigants are odorless. Therefore, fumigators are required to release a warning agent such as chloropicrin (tear gas) within the structure at the time the fumigation begins and throughout the entire fumigation process. Prior to the fumigation process, all persons, pets and plants must be removed from the structure prior to fumigation. (This includes fish and seeds or bulbs intended for planting). Medicines, feed, and food not sealed in metal, glass or highly resistant containers must be removed from the structure or sealed in protective bags as recommended by the fumigant manufacturer.

  • Client Contact us (888 – xyz-xyza) with questions and to schedule an on-site survey.
  • NFS Specialist survey and qualify structure for treatment.
  • NFS review all preparation instructions with Client.
  • Client arranges to relocate for 72-96 hours while the structure is being treated.
  • After treatment, the structure is aerate with the use of infrared sensors and monitors.
  • Client returns to the treated structure.

As the fumigation is being completed, NBF recommends that the Client hires a NESDCA certified canineinspection company to confirm that the treated structure is bedbug free prior to your arrival.
